This week found Zoe and I hopping all over the map — we started with three days in Lima, popped down for two in Huacachina, and then spent a final one in Nazca before boarding an overnight bus bound for Cusco. We’re currently running all over the city — stopping frequently to wheeze from the altitude — getting ready for The Inca Trail. I spent so many years dreaming of Peru, and so many months preparing for this trip, it’s kind of surreal now that it is actually happening.

Having a travel buddy again means a more precarious balance between work and play. Most mornings I’ve been waking up at 5:30am to cram in a few hours of work before a day’s worth of exploring, and using every spare moment — including motion-sickness inducing bus rides — to sneak in a bit more. Whenever the stress starts to build I remind myself how lucky I am to have this time on the road with one of my best friends in the world, and I start to feel a little lighter.

Photo D, I like the sun behind Zoe, looks cool. The altitude thing sucks, sleepless nights and gasping for breath. But the view is always better at the top 🙂

Actually we were two of only seven in our fifteen person Inca Trail group to not get altitude sickness! But wow — it’s amazing to be out of breathe after a few steps.

Man, Lima can be so gray and gloomy! Did you guys get any good weather around here? When we were there we were told Lima and San Francisco are the only two places in the world with the same weather pattern like that… don’t know if that’s true but it sure was foggy and dark on the way in and out of there for us. I like photo A!

No, we didn’t see more than ten minutes of sun! I am hoping when I swing back through towards December it will be a bit nicer… supposedly it is one of the three months when the weather is decent!

I love photo E. The Nazca lines are so mysterious, so I like the fact that you have only given us a tiny glimpse as a teaser.

That was one of my favorite parts of Lima! Loved the bright pop of color, especially against the perma-gloomy skies!

Yes, I was totally in love with that little park. The name — Love Park — was very appropriate as it was constantly filled with canoodling local teenagers!

Photo D because you have not any desert photos that I recall. Al least not pone with endless sand as far as the horizon. Very different and I could feel the heat just looking.

Well, I did visit a similar desert back in Vietnam… but that was years ago, so I don’t blame you for not remembering!
