Back in September, Rebtel asked me to try out their international calling service, and I became a quick convert. I described it to friends as Skype without the need for a wifi connection — though for the full lowdown you should check out my original review.
While I loved almost everything about Rebtel, I noted that there were two features that were notably absent from the app’s repertoire — video calling and instant messaging. This week, Rebtel made that comment obsolete with the launch of their new messaging service. And we’re celebrating by giving away $50 of Rebtel credit!

But you might have heard there’s something else to celebrate today. No? The bombardment of red, white, and pink media messages have eluded you? Well, breaking news, guys — it’s Valentine’s Day! I’m actually not one of the cynics — I love February 14th. Before I was traveling full time, I used to celebrate by throwing heart-drenched dance parties and sending hand-made valentines to all my family and friends. Now I’m far from home, and sending Valentine’s to my loved ones back home just isn’t feasible.
So I was tickled pink by Rebtel’s latest creation. Rebeat allows you to record and send your heartbeat — a pretty nifty virtual valentine, no? I loved watching the app’s graphics while I recorded my own, and then sending it off around the world.
Happy Valentine’s Day, ya’ll! I can’t send you all roses, but I will send one of you $50 of Rebtel credit. Think how many times you’ll be able to say “I love you!” with that. Note: This giveaway is open to readers from anywhere in the world!
